Self-care isn’t selfish. It is necessary. While we pretend we are fine and keep pushing on, we simply cannot do our best for ourselves, for our kids, in our jobs, for others.

If your children would benefit from you practicing #selfcare, would you start doing it? If you were paid for the time you spent looking after yourself, would you do it?

It’s simple fact that you will perform better in other areas of your life if you begin with looking after yourself. Create new #habits and watch the rest unfold for the better!

I used to be a workaholic. I looked after my patients better than my kids….and, sadly, far better than myself. In fact, I used to tell my patients that their kids needed them more than they needed their kids. Yet, I didn’t heed this advice.

So I battled on, had 4 jobs, 2 kids with autism, 1 of what is diabetic too! I did this as a single mom with no family in the country to help me.

Just like a car, if you neglect it, it stops. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. I was told I had Stage 4 disease ie incurable and a definite death sentence within probably 2, maybe 4-5 years.

It’s now 8.5 years later. I’ve given up my GP job, work very parttime and run an e-commerce side-gig that, within 2 years is almost matching my pre-illness earnings!

Please moms and dads……and everyone else…..please don’t test this out for yourselves. Superman and superwoman do not exist- not even in us.

Take good care of #1 first and foremost.
